How do I get started? The first step is to make an appointment. Call our office at 919-490-0203 in Durham or 919-942-7318 in Chapel Hill and we will schedule a confidential appointment. The free services we offer and how to access them will be explained at this appointment.
What can I expect when I come?
If you are in need of a pregnancy test, you will be given the opportunity to provide a urine sample. While your test is being performed, you will have a confidential consultation with a peer counselor. You will be asked to complete an intake form of basic information like your name, address, education, etc. The counselor will discuss the services we offer and how you can access those services. If you need a pregnancy test or sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing, the test will be performed during this visit.
Pregnancy tests will be completed and you will learn the results before you leave. STD testing must be sent to the lab. You will be scheduled for a return appointment to learn the STD results.
If Im already pregnant, how can you help me?
We offer one-on-one peer counseling, Baby Basics workshops for first-time moms; Wise Women curriculum for moms who already have children and we provide baby layette and nursery items. If you are within your first trimester, we can offer you a free ultrasound.
Will my visit be confidential?
All information at PSS is treated confidentially. There are two circumstances under which we are required by law to break confidentiality. 1) If a woman is in danger of harming herself the Director will handle the matter. 2) If a client has a positive result to STD testing, our clinic staff is required to report it to the county health department.
How much do your services cost?
All services offered by Pregnancy Support Services are free and confidential and available to all who need them.
Can PSS provide prenatal care?
All pregnant women are urged to seek prenatal care early and continually throughout their pregnancy. Currently we are not able to provide prenatal care at PSS. We will provide a referral to a physician or clinic in the area.
