| Volunteer Opportunities |
Peer Counseling You must be at least 24 years of age and complete PSS volunteer training. Successful peer counselors have compassion for, and patience with, people and a desire to help others grow through their experiences. Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills are always needed. There is a need for those who can help with post abortion support.
Receptionist Maturity is a must along with pleasing telephone manners. Volunteer training is highly recommended.
Clinic Needs You must have medical qualifications to provide services in the clinic. We perform first trimester ultrasounds and provide urine STD testing. Assistants and/or chaperones don’t have to have formal medical training. Healthcare background, such as nurse assistant, is optimal.
Baby Basics These are a series of parenting classes for first time moms. A knowledge of parenting is necessary to teach. Light refreshments are needed on seven Saturday mornings each quarter. Gift bags filled with non baby items are given to clients on completion of each series.
Parenting support Must be a mom. Willingness to make hospital visits and keep in touch after mom and baby go home. (Spanish speaking clients) Must be a mom. Facilitate a group for moms who have already delivered. (English speaking clients)
Mommy Meals Prepare nutritious meal for new mom when she returns from the hospital. Must be able to deliver meal.
Childbirth Instructor You must have certification in approved methods of childbirth instruction.
Administrative assistance Office and computer skills are necessary. Ability to maintain confidentiality is a must.
Abstinence Presentations Help with abstinence presentations in schools/churches and/or provide administrative support for abstinence presenters. Requires training which PSS will provide.
Church Liaison Willingness to promote PSS in your church and be a contact person for special initiatives such as baby bottle campaign and banquet
Prayer Friend We provide a monthly calendar with daily prayer requests. Commitment to pray daily for the needs of the ministry.
Committees
| Hospitality: |
Provide refreshments for volunteer training, Board retreats, etc. |
| SOHLS: |
Make follow up phone calls to churches regarding bulletin inserts and/or deliver to participating churches. |
| Banquet: |
Help with decorations, design programs, provide speaker support, ticket distribution. |
Baby Bottle Campaign: |
Contact churches, distribute and collect bottles | Launder clothes Willingness to come to the Durham center to pick up donated clothing, take them home, launder them, and return them to the Durham center.
Transport baby items A flexible schedule and a large vehicle are helpful. You will be called when there is a need for this service.
Cleaning Only requirement is a servant’s heart and willingness to serve in the background. Cleaning supplies will be provided as will a key to the center since this needs to be accomplished after business hours.
 Volunteers are essential to the well being of this ministry. We appreciate your willingness to give of your time and talent. We will do all we can to make your volunteer experience meaningful and enjoyable.
